DRAYTON TRVS TO CARRY NEW MARK OF QUALITY
Popular products like Drayton’s TRV4 will now display a new mark of quality, which is being rolled out this year, denoting European standard compliance on Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs).
All newly manufactured Drayton TRVs will now carry the Keymark, which unites over 160 European standards for household appliances and electrical products under one symbol.
The Keymark, like its predecessor the CENCER logo that historically appeared on TRVs, tells installers that the product has been independently tested to EN 215, proving its resistance to bending, pressure and temperature as well as leak-tightness and response times.
The previous CENCER mark was only applicable to TRVs and in 2010 the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) set a key objective to reduce the number of marks that it maintains.
As a result, CENCER is gradually being phased out until 1st January 2012, when TRVs will be required to display the Keymark logo instead, as a sign of quality and reliability. All user guides, packaging, brochures and catalogues will also have to feature the new symbol.
Although it is important to note that at no time will a CENCER marked product cease to be compliant, there is scope for confusion. So, in an effort to minimise the amount of CENCER products on the shelves come 2012, Drayton is producing Keymarked TRVs early.
David Kempster, Product Manager for Drayton Controls, said:
“It is important for installers to be aware of the change to keymark and how it might affect them, both through customer queries and when specifying a product.
“More and more householders are aware of the comfort and energy saving benefits of TRVs. In addition, the recent changes to Part L of the Building Regulations specify that all rooms in non-open plan homes must have zone control provided by TRVs.
“Adding good quality TRVs to a heating system can significantly improve its efficiency and performance, and by fitting TRVs carrying the new keymark logo, installers and householders can be confident of their quality, reliability and capacity to deliver improved comfort levels and energy savings.”
