The Energy Bill, which contains the Government’s flagship Green Deal policy on energy efficiency, is due to be introduced in Parliament today.

Expected to go into come into effect in 2012, the Green Deal will enable home and business owners to gain access to up front capital, which is expected to be capped at £6,000, in order to put energy saving measures in place.

The Energy Bill will set the framework for the policy, while secondary legislation will be required to set out specific details, particularly how people will qualify.

Chris Huhne, Energy and Climate Change Secretary, commented:

"The Green Deal is about taking the hassle and upfront cost out of making your home more energy efficient. The Green Deal's also a great business opportunity and shows we're serious about the green industries of the future."
