NEW ENERGY CENTRE BRINGS GREENER FUTURE
(Published 16 December 2011)
Homes and businesses in Wales may now have access to renewable energy heating systems thanks to the creation of a new smart energy centre.
The £7 million SWALEC Smart Energy Centre in Treforest will provide training in highly-skilled installation and create up to 250 new 'green' jobs.
Specialist teams will use the base to respond to the changing energy market, covering micro-generation as well as larger installations.
It comes ahead of the government's Green Deal scheme, due to launch next year, which is expected to see a surge in demand for skilled installers of renewable energy and energy efficiency measures.
Business minister Edwina Hart said that the £2 million contribution from the Welsh government would help to create new jobs and "boost the skills base needed to support this fast growing sector".
