FUEL BILLS SET TO 'DOUBLE EVERY FIVE YEARS'
(Published 14 January 2011)
As German owned energy supplier E.ON became the latest company to announce a price increase, energy experts warned that bills could double every five years.
The 9% electric and 3% gas increase will mean that 4.6 million homes will see an average of £62 added to their fuel bills this year.
Unicredit Banks blames the expense of turning to renewable energy for the skyrocketing prices, which could see a typical fuel bill reach £4,000 by 2020.
With more cold weather expected before the end of the month, the latest price increases have come at a bad time for homeowners that have already been hit by some of the coldest weather on record.
