CLIMATE CHANGE REPORT PREDICTS EXTREME WEATHER
(Published 27 January 2012)
Holidaymakers could soon be swapping Barbados for Blackpool and Tuscany for Torquay a new Government report into climate change suggests.
According to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, European tourists will increasingly holiday in the UK, with Brits choosing to stay at home rather than go to France or Spain.
It may all sound like great news for the economy, but the costs associated with flooding and more extreme weather, more than negate any financial benefits.
It is estimated that global warming will cause flooding that could cost up to £12 billion every year because of heavy rainfall in the winter and rising sea levels, affecting up to 3.6 million people by 2050.
