ENERGY SUPPLIER FACES PRICE INVESTIGATION

(Published 23 June 2011)

Scottish Power is facing possible court action and may be forced to stop selling a “potentially misleading” deal it offered customers just as gas prices rose by nearly 20%.

Watchdog Ofgem has launched an investigation to examine whether the company misled people by claiming savings of hundreds of pounds would be made if they signed up to its Direct October 2012 promotion.

The investigation comes as the regulator warned that customers face a 30% rise in their gas bill before next winter as wholesale gas prices rise. The increase could add more than £200 to the typical energy bill.
