NEW ONLINE SIMULATOR PUTS ENERGY IN PUBLIC’S HANDS

(Published 3 March 2011)

Members of the public now have the opportunity to look at the impact of energy policy decisions by using a new online simulator tool that the Department of Energy and Climate Change that has been launched this week.

Users of My2050 will be able to decide how much we rely on nuclear power, develop our homes to be more efficient and how we travel, with the aim of meeting the UK’s 80% carbon reduction target, with demand not exceeding supply.

“There’s no silver bullet solution to the UK’s energy future. This project is all about getting to grips with the hard choices and trade-offs which need to be made,” says Energy and Climate Change Secretary Chris Huhne.

A more technical version of the simulation tool, the 2050 Calendar, gives a more detailed look at the UK’s energy portfolio and emissions.
