PIPE DREAM FOR DEVON PLUMBER
(Published 10 March 2011)
Devon based heating engineer Steve Whiteley has been celebrating after coming up on the rails with a record £1.4 million win on the horses this week.
The plumber, 61, became a millionaire for just a £2 stake, putting his extraordinary stroke of luck down to a 47-year-old four-leaf clover.
Based in the tiny village of North Tawton, Mr Whiteley has vowed not to let the windfall change his life but did concede that he may downscale his operation to a three-day week.
"I've a customer with no hot water and I promised him a new valve. I can't sit around doing nothing… I'll get bored.
"It doesn't seem real. I can't even get my money because the village bank doesn't open until Friday”
