GOOSE FOLLOWED BY ICE

(Published 30 November 2011)

Freezing weather is being forecast for the coming months, and not by the Met Office, instead the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is predicting a cold snap.

The sighting of 12 white-fronted geese at the charity's Pulborough Brooks nature reserve in West Sussex has sparked talk of severe cold weather.

The migration of the birds from Greenland and Siberia to the UK historically heralds the onset of wintry weather.

Pete Hughes, the reserve's site manager, said: "Last year, we reported 115, the highest number on record for West Sussex, so we're wondering if we'll get a repeat performance this winter."
