NEW £30 MILLION FUNDING TO EASE FUEL POVERTY
(Published 4 November 2011)
The Government has announced £30 million of funding to help ease fuel poverty in the UK.
Of the £30 million, £20 million will go to local authorities and charities, helping over 10,000 households, while a further £10 million will be used to boost existing schemes.
Health secretary Andrew Lansley said the money would help "protect those most in need", while the charity Age UK described the plan as a "very important step in the right direction".
Officials claim that if £10m is put towards Warm Front– an existing scheme to support people in fuel poverty – it could provide about 5,000 low-income households with improvements to insulation and heating worth £3,500.
