WE ARE NOT BEMUSED

(Published 11 November 2010)

As we head deeper into winter, and we start to pay more attention to our heating bills, it appears that even the Queen is doing her bit to go green and save energy.

Some of the country’s grandest royal palaces, including Hampton Court and the Tower of London, are being given the once over to install energy saving measures, with most receiving loft insulation. The project is expected to save hundreds of thousands of pounds each year.

Michael Day, Head of Historic Royal Palaces, said: 'These palaces have stood the test of time over hundreds of years. We must make sure they are suitable for a new low carbon future.'

According to the Energy Saving Trust, the average home could make an annual saving of up to £145 with loft insulation. In fact, if everyone in the UK installed loft insulation, £520 million and nearly three million tonnes of CO2 could be saved every year.
