CALLS ARE HOPEFULLY RECORDED FOR TRAINING PURPOSES

(Published 2 September 2011)

An investigation by consumer body Which? has revealed that staff at the ‘Big Six’ energy suppliers don’t always know which are the best deals to offer.

The sheer number of tariffs on offer for householders is so vast that even staff at the energy firms are getting confused, according to the study.

Which? called each of the six major suppliers 12 times for advice on the lowest cost option. Despite being asked clearly for the cheapest deal, in nearly a third of calls firms failed to offer the appropriate tariff. Staff also gave poor advice about potential savings, cashback deals and fixed prices.

Richard Lloyd from Which said:

“If you call an energy supplier asking for their cheapest deal, that’s exactly what you should get.”
